Reader-Inserts and Skin Color

I've never written in this journal before, but after reading a few fanfics this morning, I've decided to address an issue that I've seen in MANY reader-inserts including my own: skin color.  This may be my personal opinion, but I'd like to think that if you're going to write a reader insert, the description of the reader's skin color should be left up to the reader to decide. It shouldn't automatically be assumed that the readers are all white girls/women. Sure, that might be the 'common' audience, but what about the readers who are women of color? To describe the reader as having 'perfect white, creamy skin' or 'cheeks that turn red when th
